Abstract
Scaling is important to multicore, HPC, distributed, and IoT systems.
This talk examines the concept of scaling from several perspectives, algorithmic, biological, and social.
It touches on
- the paradox of unexpected emergent behaviour in a world where scaling laws apply consistently over many orders of magnitude
- hardware bugs
- how can we build resilient systems in an environment we cannot understand.
