Making VR More Usable for Extended and Regular Sessions.

Abstract

Despite the most recent hype about the Metaverse, virtual reality (VR) has been an “emerging” technology for more than 30 years. So, why hasn’t it fulfilled its promise as a transformational technology? Are we finally there yet?

In this talk, I will provide some insights about our current efforts at HIT Lab NZ on helping people design proper VR experiences that support long-term and regular use of VR. I will provide specific ideas to help app developers deliver solutions for workers to train more effectively, or data analysts to carry out immersive data analytics work, without having to cut their sessions short due to discomfort. I will present concrete applications we have made using heuristics we have identified so far.
